Words that try to describe her.... Regina means “Queen".
Nannie lived that meaning in the true sense of Proverbs 31.
Her sweet voice and beautiful dimpled smile was a stable comfort and source of joy all our lives.
She was a living example of a strong work ethic, integrity, and responsibility to God for those in her care and realm of influence.
She was always searching for a way, small or big, that she could encourage us to be and do our best.
Her faith in and personal relationship with
Jesus Christ was the source of her joy and
strength.................

Nannie, You were so very special to me. You were always there for me. I talked to you either in person or on the phone at least once a day for most of my life.
When I was in college, too low on cash to buy food, you brought me your mouth-watering fried chicken in a picnic basket.
You stayed with me a whole month when my first child was born, and taught me how to be a mother. You gave me cookbooks, and taught me new recipes.
I remember the times we went fishing in your beautiful pond in front of your house. The time I caught that eight pound catfish. I was shocked when I finally got that fighting fish to shore. You threw back in and caught one the same size! The picture I have of you and I with those two big catches is one of my most precious possessions.
Later in life, when I needed you to help me with the kids when I was out of town with my job, you were right there. When they were sick, they stayed with Nannie while I worked. Sometimes I think they acted sicker than they were so they could get to spend the day at Nannie's house. I am so thankful they had a chance to spend that time with you. They loved and enjoyed you as much as I did!
You gave me such good, wise, experienced advice on relationship management during various times in my life. You were always praying for me. You lived your life so unselfishly...to somehow assist your family in feeling happy...comforted and comfortable...and cared for.
Seeing Nannie, and going to Nannie's house was the highlight of my life as a child, and the comfort-food of my adulthood. Bad circumstances lost the depth of their impact on our lives once we arrived at your house.
How I treasure the memories of seeing you come to the door with your apron as we arrived for a holiday. You had usually been cutting up all kinds of fresh fruit for your wonderful fruit salad, or fresh potatoes for the potato salad only Nannie could make.
As the chatter of children changed from the voices of your grandchildren to that of your great grandchildren...your stedfast love and dedication to your family stayed the same.
I treasure the times we met for lunch.
I remember one of the many Birthday Parties I planned for you over the years...at the Mexican restaurant...you looked so cute in your sombrero.
I learned so much from you. I praise God that He put you in my life. I hope I can be as good a grandmother when I have grandchildren as you were to me. I sure did have an excellent role model in you.
I miss you more than words can express,
and I know that you are no longer in my present, but in my future.
Love, Dianne

I'll always enjoy being "Nannie's
Doll". |
"If the Father of our Lord
Jesus arranges all, then our friends do not die untimely deaths.
Believers are not cut off before
their time.
God has appointed a time to
harvest His fruit.
Some are sweet, even in the early
spring, and He gathers them.
Others, like baskets of summer
fruit, are taken while the year is young.
Yet some remain until autumn
mellows them.
Be sure of this, each will be
gathered in season.
God has appointed the
commencement, the continuation, and the conclusion of your mortal
life."Charles Spurgeon

The
poem was read by Lee , Dianne's oldest son, and Nannie's oldest
grandchild as the family's statement of memorial to Nannie....on
October 7, 2001, for Nannie's funeral.
O
Lord, We have lived this day
To bury our Beloved Nannie.
Our gratitude for her is as full
As our grief for us,
And our Peace in You is as deep
As the pain in our loss -
All because of Your Grace in our need.
We need You as never before as
You shepherd our souls through
These dry and heavy days.
You send us to earth for a season,
And then You receive us
Again to Yourself.
We understand this cycle,
But we were not ready
To let go of Nannie.
All of our lives
We knew this would happen.
But the finality and
Reality of it is piercing.
One thing we know,
That death cannot kill love,
And human hands cannot bury it.
On this, Nannie's Homecoming To Heaven Ceremony,
We give You praise for her life lived well,
And her love which lives on....
Within our hearts.
